Introduction

It’s been over three years since the initial release of Project CARS 2, but the racing simulator has aged like a fine wine, with Slightly Mad Studios ironing out the bugs and frequently releasing epic new cars and tracks along the way.

When the game initially launched in September 2017, it featured a respectable 180 cars. Since then, five additional DLC packs have followed, and there’s now a vastly improved selection of 205 vehicles from 35 manufacturers across the globe for you to enjoy.

Admittedly, this number may still not look too impressive compared to some of its competitors, such as Forza Motorsport 7, which features over 800 cars following the various DLC updates.

However, many enthusiasts have complained that FM7’s car list includes many re-hashed old models. They’ve also included many purpose-made vehicles from their open-world arcade game, Forza Horizon 4.

Sure, getting behind the wheel of an off-roader is tremendous fun. Well, until you remember that FM7 only allows you to race around circuits, that is.

Thankfully, each of the vehicles in Project CARS 2 serves a purpose. With nine motorsport disciplines and 29 motorsport series’ featuring in the game, you’ll be able to push them all to their absolute limits.

With that said, if you’re feeling adventurous, you could even take them beyond their limits. Have you ever fancied taking your shiny new Porsche or Ferrari ice drifting? Project CARS 2 has you covered.

Project CARS 2 provides the perfect stepping stone for those who are getting serious with your sim racing.

Project CARS 2 – Additional DLC Content

Since the game’s initial launch, Slightly Mad Studios has provided plenty of fresh DLC content for PC2 fans to enjoy, which will need to be purchased separately.

With a total of five packs, these provided an additional 42 cars alongside six new circuits, with four vehicles only available to the ‘Season Pass’ holders.

Japanese Cars Pack (Released November 2017)

When Project CARS 2 initially launched, the Japanese Car Pack was only available as a pre-order bonus with the ‘Deluxe Edition’ game, but it was also made available to purchase as DLC content shortly after.

The Japanese Pack explores Japan’s rich motoring legacy, providing some of the most iconic JDM cars ever to hit the market.

Two stand-out additions were the Nissan’s Group A Skyline R32 GT-R and the much-loved 280ZX GTX.

Fun Pack (Released December 2017)

Alongside eight new cars, the ‘Fun Pack’ also included two brand-new loose-surface tracks, four invitational events, and 17 new liveries.

Further boosting the games’ Rallycross content, it iconic vehicles such as Petter Solberg’s Citroën DS3 RX Supercar and banned 500+ hp Group B weaponry.

But for us, it was the addition of Vaughn Gittin Jr’s Fun-Haver that caught our attention. With the game somewhat lacking in drift cars, the 960 hp RTR Spec Ford Mustang was a fantastic addition to the line-up.

Alongside the vehicles, the ‘Fun Pack’ provides Barcelona and Brands Hatch Rallycross tracks.

Porsche Legends Pack (Released March 2018)

The ‘Porsche Legends’ Pack was unveiled to celebrate the German automotive legends’ 70th Anniversary.

Take a journey back through the decades and enjoy the very best of what this incredible manufacturer has offered over the years by getting behind the wheel of eight brand-new cars.

Not only that, but you’ll gain access to Porsche’s very own test track, ‘Porsche On-road Circuit Leipzig’, which you can be assured is the perfect location to put the cars through their paces.

Featuring replica turns from some of the most inspiring tracks across the world, such as Sebring, the Nürburgring, and Spa, this circuit provides the ultimate high-speed challenge.

Project CARS 2 ‘Season Pass’ holders can get their hands on the ‘Spirit of Le Mans’ car pack. If you’ve not got a season pass, then fear not, as this is also available as a standalone purchase.

This pack provides the opportunity to re-live two of the most exciting eras in racing history, as the electrifying LMP1 racers go head-to-head against historical icons such as the Ferrari 512.

Where better for them to fight out than the freshly added ‘Le Mans Vintage Track’ from 1971?

Alongside nine cars and the additional track, you also get ten new liveries and five brand-new Le Mans-inspired career events.

Ferrari Essentials Pack (Released September 2018)

The final addition to the Project CARS 2 DLC content line-up was the highly-impressive ‘Ferrari Essentials’ Pack.

With a total of eight brand-new Ferrari’s to enjoy, this bumps the roster up to ten additional DLC cars for the Italian legends and is a must-have for any Ferrari enthusiast.

Available as a standalone purchase or as part of the Project CARS 2 ‘Season Pass’, you’ll also gain access to the top-secret Ferrari test track, Pista di Fiorano, alongside the coveted Mugello Circuit.

From the 250 GT Berlinetta to the F40, right the way through to the 1,000 hp Ferrari FXX K, this final addition to the line-up has unsurprisingly also proven to be one of the most popular.

What are the best drift cars in Project CARS 2?

It certainly won’t come as much of a surprise that this is the most common question we receive from PC2 fans!

Although Project CARS 2 is more race-oriented and doesn’t have the best selection of drift cars available, there are still several cars that you’ll be able to flick sideways and enjoy some tail-happy action with.

Here are our Top 3 drift cars in Project CARS 2.

Toyota GT-86 Rocket Bunny

Toyobaru’s legendary modern-day drifter, the GT86, is also known as the Subaru BRZ, and Scion FR-S certainly doesn’t disappoint in the game.

This excellent video shows its full capabilities and demonstrates how you can drift the car to its full potential.

Mazda MX-5 Radbul

It’s Mad Mike’s awesome Mazda Miata that also caught our attention, which earned its spot in the game at the start, and has since gone on to become one of the most popular in-game drift cars.

Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5-D (DLC Only – Fun Pack)

Although the Ford Mustang RTR isn’t available to everyone, you’ll be able to get your hands on it by purchasing the ‘Fun Pack’ DLC content.

Since its release, this has become the most popular drift car in the game, based on Vaughn Gittin Jr’s Formula Drift Mustang setup.

The ‘Fun Pack’ provides the perfect opportunity to get behind this wheelie-popping monster, and we feel that it’s worth purchasing for this car alone.

Can you modify cars in Project CARS 2?

Although you’re able to carry out tuning in Project CARS 2, you cannot upgrade or customize the vehicles.

Other games, such as Forza Horizon 4, Forza Motorsport 7, and Assetto Corsa, are going to be a far better choice for those of you that are looking to create the ultimate in-game drift cars.

Does Project CARS 2 have VR?

Those of you with a PC gaming rig will be delighted to hear that Project CARS 2 has fantastic VR capabilities, allowing you to experience the game to its full potential.

We’re afraid that it never became available for those of you that were hoping to hear positive news when it comes to PlayStation VR support.

Even though Project CARS 3 has now been on the market for several months, it still lacks PSVR support, and there have been no conclusive announcements to introduce it.

Does Project CARS 2 Support 4K?

Those of you playing PC2 on the PC will be able to enjoy it in its full 4K glory.

If you happen to have a triple-monitor setup, you’ll potentially be able to achieve 12K resolution (4K per monitor), which looks absolutely stunning.

There’s a massive selection on offer, from karts to drift cars, right the way through to the legendary classics.

Although Project CARS 2 isn’t the best choice out there for drifting, it still makes for an excellent racing simulator that can be picked up for an absolute bargain now that Project CARS 3 has hit the shelves.

If you’re keen to take a look at what drifting simulator games have to offer, then Assetto Corsa on the PC is going to be your best bet. Although it’s now available on consoles, the lack of mod support makes it an entirely different game.

Alternatively, if you’ve only got a controller, and you’re looking for some drifting entertainment, then Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7 are going to be the best choices.
