Our comment: The HKS Hi-Power exhaust is a Japanese classic and once again they’ve pulled it out of the bag with this work of art. Enjoy the subtle sounds until you plant your foot to the floor to let her roar. This is another great choice for those who are after the quieter option for daily driving. However, we doubt you’ll be able to resist hearing the sounds it produces as it screams its way to the redline!

Our comment: Weighing in at an insane 13lbs (5.7kg) is Tomei’s offering, despite an extremely impressive 18.8kg weight loss, this single-exhaust system is perhaps not for everyone. If you’re purely after weight loss and performance, the Tomei is quite possibly the best choice for the money. However, with the G37’s body design made with twin exits in mind – having a single large Jap-style exhaust poking out the rear is an acquired taste.

Featuring far fewer bends than other offerings, the large diameter, high-flow design of the exhaust is fantastic for performance but not so great for those who are after a quieter drive.

Please note that this is the 370Z exhaust which Tomei says will fit, however we suspect it may require some small modifications. We recommend contacting the supplier to ensure correct fitment.

Our comment: By far the cheapest offering from our list, this Manzo exhaust offers great value for money for those who are looking to go down the lower-budget route of improving the factory exhaust note.

We can’t deny that the exhaust sounds great despite some drone noise and when fitted under the car, it certainly looks good too! If you are simply looking for a better flowing exhaust without being worried about perfect welds or running a name brand, this may well be a great affordable option for you!

Our comment: This fantastic mid-range offering from USA based Fast Intentions is the first choice for many owners. Each exhaust is made in-house to order at their US factory to extremely high standards with great fitment. With an epic deep, throaty, exotic-sounding note, it’s easy to see why this is the go-to option for so many owners.

Our only downsides would be a slight drone in the upper gears and it perhaps sits a little lower than those who require high ground clearance would like. With a choice of stainless steel exhaust tips available, great looks and an epic sound, it’s definitely one to consider.

Our comment: Weighing in at just 9.0kg, this incredible STTI titanium offering from Amuse is undoubtedly the unicorn of the G37 exhaust world. Despite being visually stunning insanely lightweight and providing an incredible soundtrack, this comes at a cost.

With prices starting at $3,295 (excluding sales tax), expect to fork out an eye-watering $7,485 for the quad-exit alternative. If money is no object, this could quite possibly be the exhaust for the perfect finishing touch to your G37!

The increasingly popular Stage 1 kit features twin Garrett GT2860RS turbochargers capable of an impressive 700+WHP with additional engine modifications. This tuner kit features twin TD06SH-20G twin turbos and a great package to get you started. This is a great quality kit, as we’ve always come to expect from GReddy products, and many owners have successfully had impressive power figures and long term reliability from it.

GReddy appears to have discontinued its turbo kit from production at the time of review. However, it’s still available today for purchase from other retailers.

***WARNING*** Alongside being discontinued, GReddy never made a specific G37 kit. For this reason, we recommend talking with a local specialist regarding modification to make this kit bolt onto your G37.

Our comment: STS is well-known in the tuning scene for its work on muscle cars. This time, they brought this unique rear-mounted single turbo offering to the market for those looking for something different.

Some owners mention that the front-mount intercooler is a little on the small side, and if you’re looking for a larger one, it comes at an additional price. It appears to be an extremely easy kit to fit, even with basic knowledge.

However, after hearing about potential issues with piping such as rust problems with methanol injection. We highly recommend you speak with the manufacturer regarding to see if they can offer a solution before purchasing.

***WARNING*** This kit is specifically made for the 370Z, however there are many G37’s currently running the STS kit, so we also highly recommend discussing with them if you’re after a rear-mount turbo setup.

Introduction

Nissan is best known for its sports-car offerings in the marketplace. When they intended to target the luxury market, they knew they’d struggle with being taken seriously by those typically opting for their hugely-popular German rivals such as BMW.

So, the Japanese manufacturer returned to the drawing board and created an entirely new brand, which would be far better suited to this fresh target market, and Infiniti was born.

Gone was the refined, harsh ride we know and love from Nissan. In its place were style, comfort, and modern-day gadgets.

After the lesser-known first (P10) and second-generation (P11) G-series failed to impress the market, the 350Z’s sibling, the G35, finally brought attention to the brand they’d set out to achieve.

The Infiniti G35 immediately scooped the Motor Trend Car of the Year award in 2003 before being nominated for the North American Car of the Year.

It also featured in the Car and Driver Ten Best list for two years, throughout 2003 and 2004.

Infiniti had set the benchmark for the brand well, and it quickly appealed to enthusiasts who were after a luxurious yet sporty car for everyday driving.

Maybe you want to do some simple upgrades to your daily, build a full-retard drift, track weapon, or want to scrape your way to your local stance meet. We’ll cover everything you could need to know when it comes to finding the perfect products.

So, let’s look at the ultimate upgrades as we prepare to get your G pushing out the power it’s capable of, alongside handling like it’s on rails.


G37 Handling Upgrades

Although it’s easy to get tempted with chasing substantial power figures from the VQ37VHR right away, it’s easy to overlook handling upgrades, which we feel should always be the first consideration, alongside weight saving.

Despite the G37 receiving many handling upgrades over its earlier sibling, there’s still a lot of room for improvement. This is where aftermarket suspension comes in.

You may be concerned that suspension upgrades sound like an enormous job, but that’s certainly not true.

You’ll have more work to do if you opt for lowering springs over coilovers since a coilover upgrade provides a convenient, all-in-one swap for Infiniti’s OEM suspension setup, providing adjustability to achieve the perfect ride height.

On the other hand, with lowering springs, you’ll need to remove the original springs, which can sometimes be a terrifying prospect, before re-fitting the new ones.

G37 Coilovers

Although some may associate coilovers with slamming your car to the ground and scraping your way to the local meet, this isn’t always the case.

Coilovers are fully adjustable, allowing an impressive suspension adjustment for the price.

For example, if you want to improve your handling, we recommend dropping the G37 around 20mm on your coilovers. This is perfectly safe without flaring the arches on your G with the correct wheel setup. If necessary, you can consider adding a slight tweak to the wheel camber for wider wheels.

Doing so will improve the handling, reduce body roll, and allow you to use fine-tuning to achieve the correct suspension settings to maximize grip.

We highly recommend getting a professional to set up your tracking correctly, and you can easily choose between a drift, fast-road, track, or even drag setup.

If you plan to improve your G37’s performance, you must be able to put the power down efficiently, and grip is particularly vital when drifting.

For those of you that haven’t got the budget for coilovers just yet, you can always consider lowering springs.

However, our experience has shown that most owners upgrade to coilovers shortly after, so we’d recommend going straight down that route to save doing things again later.

They offer a firm but not crashy ride, which is still ideal for street use, yet more than capable for the money when you head to the track.

For those who want nothing but the best for your G, look no further than the Hipermax S from JDM tuning legends HKS.

This option combines fantastic ride comfort, close-to-stock comfort, and superb handling.

These are certainly a competitor for the KW V3, and the decision may boil down to personal preference, particularly if you’re keen to stick with JDM products on your Z.

If you’re considering going down the lowering springs route, we’d recommend looking at the Whiteline WSK-NIS002 Lowering Spring Kit.

For those of you that are interested in carrying out further handling upgrades, then we highly recommend taking a look at these additional handling upgrades to unleash the ultimate potential from your G37’s handling:

G37 Cold Air Intake

CAIs are among the most common initial upgrades that G37 owners consider, thanks to their cheap price tag and simplicity of fitting.

A Cold Air Intake is a fantastic way to provide additional cooling and oxygen to your engine; this improves the sound and responsiveness while freeing up a few extra horses.

Don’t expect any substantial power gains from installing a CAI. Still, it’s the perfect complement to any additional supporting upgrades you may be considering, from an aftermarket exhaust, right the way through to forced induction.

If you don’t mind having a rather loud single-exit exhaust, then the Tomei Expreme Ti is an incredible choice for the money. We would opt for this one, but we understand it’s not everyone’s taste.

If you’re on a budget, then the Manzo Dual G37 Exhaust provides good performance for the price, but we’d personally save up a few extra bucks for a superior product.

G37 Test Pipes

Test Pipes will completely replace the G37’s catalytic converters, which are incredibly restrictive in stock form.

However, be warned, these will not only make your car significantly louder, but they’re also likely to fail the emissions laws regarding inspection, as they’re illegal in most states and countries.

The positives are that these are cheap, straightforward bolt-on modifications, often providing power gains of around 10hp.

There are certainly not many products on the market capable of providing as much power for a couple of hundred bucks.

Although they’re not entirely convenient, they’re worth the effort regarding performance and ensuring that your VQ engine can extract the gases as freely as possible.

Drifted G37 Test Pipes Choice

These are well-known for being quieter and removing some of the less-desirable sounds that can often come with test pipes, such as excessive rasp and drone, to bring you the ultimate combination of performance and harmonics in a great-looking package.

They’re one of the cheapest offerings on our list, but thankfully they haven’t compromised on quality, which is why the Berk test pipes are the most popular non-resonated cats available.

Sure, they’ll be loud since they’re a straight-through pipe, but they’re well made and sound incredible while providing significant power gains.

G37 Headers

Headers complete the perfect exhaust setup for optimal airflow alongside the intake and cat-back exhaust, providing the final piece to your bolt-on exhaust puzzle when freeing up the untapped potential.

If you opt for long-tube headers, these will override your cats, which will once again potentially fail emissions testing.

Headers will be another essential addition for those who plan to go down the forced induction or NOS routes with your build.

Headers are notoriously challenging to fit on the G37, and we would expect the job to take around six hours, even with the right equipment and a qualified mechanic.

Therefore, we recommend considering heat-wrapping your headers before fitting to avoid the headache of potentially deciding to do so further down the line.

It may sound too good to be true, but heat wrap is proven to improve engine bay temperatures by up to fifty percent and is undoubtedly a worthwhile addition to your build.

Installing gigantic wheels to your G isn’t likely to improve anything, but you’ll undoubtedly see benefits with a sensible setup.

We bet that you’ll also end up turning around when you walk away from your awesome-looking ride more than ever, too!

Our recommendation for wheels for the G37 is to stick with a sensible 18 or 19-inch setup with low-profile tires.

We’ve generally found that a width of around 9.5”-11” suits the Z best, and you can also go for a staggered fitment, providing a wider wheel/tire combination at the rear to provide additional grip when it comes to putting the power down.

When it comes to wheel offset, you’ll want to aim for the +25 to +15 region, but we highly recommend looking around at the fitment of other G’s and asking about your local owners’ clubs before making the decision.

Alternatively, Fitment Industries has an incredible Infiniti G37 gallery with every fitment imaginable to help you make the perfect rim choice.

A dedicated track setup will differ wildly from those planning on driving low and slow to the local meet.

Why should I consider aftermarket headers?

Although the first considerations for breathing mods should typically be intake and exhaust upgrades, you’ll then be looking for the next piece of the puzzle, which is where aftermarket headers can provide a fantastic improvement.

When exhaust gases leave your engine, headers are the first port of call when it comes to the extraction process, and their purpose is to release the gases as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Aftermarket headers allow higher flow than the stock equivalent that Nissan provided with the VQ engine, mainly thanks to their enlarged internal diameter.

Research and development with aftermarket headers have generated significantly improved efficiency with their tried-and-tested designs, alongside utilizing lightweight materials for the ultimate weight-saving benefits.

Not only are there some rather substantial performance gains to be had, but you’ll also noticeably improve the acoustics of the already-glorious sounding VQ engine in the process.

For those of you that are thinking of going down the forced induction route on your G37, whether it’s a turbo or supercharger setup, headers are crucial, as you certainly won’t be maximizing the potential on offer with the stock headers.

The same applies to those of you that may be considering integrating nitrous (NOS) into your setup further down the line.


Short Tube vs. Long Tube Headers

Short tube headers are known as β€œshorty’s” or β€œshorties” in the tuning scene, and these are typically the most inexpensive option.

These are often best for providing low-end torque, which can often make them a popular choice for those looking for headers for your daily-driven street setup.

When it comes to sound, short tube headers typically provide a more aggressive note under load.

Nissan’s stock setup already integrates a short tube setup, and although several of the aftermarket companies in our list have provided an improved flow, they don’t typically offer gains as impressive as the long tube headers.

One of the main benefits of short tube headers is that you can retain the cats, which will appeal to owners in states where emission legislation could pose an issue.

For maximum gains from shorties, you would want to use them alongside test pipes or high-flow cats and swapping out when necessary, which can be more convenient when it comes to testing time.

Long tube headers are typically the preferred choice for maximum performance and track use.

Long tube headers eliminate the cats, bolting up directly from the engine to your cat-back system for the ultimate free-flowing capabilities of your exhaust gases.

Due to its free-flowing abilities, this allows for the maximum power potential to be achieved, particularly in the upper end of the power band.

You can typically expect a more exotic-sounding engine note from the long tube headers instead of the deeper growl we would typically expect from the short tube.

Due to their design, long tube headers will almost always provide the more substantial power gains of the two choices.


Fitting your G37 headers

One of the primary considerations with G37 owners when it comes to headers is whether they should install them or get a reputable shop to do the job instead.

You may be thinking this sounds a little excessive, but to someone inexperienced, swapping out the headers on a G37 can be a more substantial task than on most cars.

Short tube headers are the more convenient option of the choices when it comes to installation, but it’s still a rather large task that will require the right tools, and even then, it will most likely involve a fair bit of swearing.

We would expect installation time to take around 4-6 hours for G37 headers.

Before installing, we would always ensure the optimal lifespan of our shiny new headers with exhaust wrap, as this isn’t something you’ll be able to do once the headers are attached to your G.

Do the G37 headers fit the G37X and G37S?

Due to the AWD layout, these models have a limited choice for headers, but thankfully, two of the best options available will fit the G37S and G37X models.

Our comment: Fast Intentions are well known for releasing some of the best products on the market. Their Infiniti G37 long tube headers are certainly no exception, providing incredible quality alongside some of the largest performance gains.

These were the first headers released for the G37, and they are still quite possibly the most popular choice out there with many delighted long-term owners.

Thankfully, this also represents the perfect choice for G37S and G37X owners, thanks to their flawless compatibility.

Manufacturer description:This is the worlds first “production” long tube header for the Infiniti G37 Coupe. The premier upgrade for all G37 Coupe owners looking maximize the performance output of their VQ37VHR naturally aspirated or supercharged engine. Our comment: Z1 Motorsports has utilized the design of the discontinued β€˜Momentum’ headers, to bring arguably the best short headers to the market. These are exceptional quality and a fantastic option if you have emissions concerns.

Short headers typically produce less power, but these are well known for their ability to keep up with the long tube variations, and owners have claimed to achieve up to 16whp gains.

They do note that the driver’s side motor mount bracket will need to be cleared, so it may be worth considering if these are on your radar.

Manufacturer description:Z1 Motorsports VQ Performance Headers are constructed with 1 3/4β€³ 16 gauge 304 stainless steel with 3/8β€³ flanges to prevent warping. The use of back purge TIG welding and mandrel bends creates the strongest headers with the most efficient airflow“.

They feature equal length runners and merge style collectors for increased scavenging. The materials and craftsmanship are impeccable. Z1 headers are the nicest headers available for your VQ Powered G“.


PPE Engineering G37 headers

Our comment: PPE Engineering brings another fantastic addition to the market with its popular long tube headers. We would say these are almost as popular as Fast Intentions and once again feature superb quality with excellent long-term results.

One of the best things about the PPE offering, which could well make it tempting, is that they include ceramic coating for free to keep your engine temperatures down while increasing power alongside corrosion protection.

These represent a fantastic alternative for G37S/G37X owners if the Fast Intentions headers aren’t what you’re after.

Manufacturer description:The PPE 370Z/G37 long tube headers are designed for maximum power. Testing on a 2010 370Z Nismo showed a 23whp gain on a completely stock car. Excellent gains were also seen on the base 370Z and G37“.

Evolution Performance Coatings polished ceramic coating comes standard and adds good looks along with thermal barrier properties that increase power and lower engine bay temps. They are also a great protection against corrosion“.

Our comment: Megan Racing brings one of the cheapest kits on our list, but does it come with quality? Megan Racing often has a negative reputation in the tuning industry; however, these claims can often be false or exaggerated.

Megan Racing has sold quite a few of these headers, with many happy owners. We’re not sure about their longevity, and since it’s such a huge job to swap them out, we would perhaps consider going with one of the more tried-and-tested methods.

With that being said, if you have the time, the tools, and you don’t mind taking a small risk, these headers may well be a bargain!

Manufacturer description:Megan Racing Stainless Steel Headers are made of thick T-304 Stainless Steel and are mandrel bent to form and fit your particular application with the best performance results possible while the thick flanges and strong welds prevent cracking and offer long lasting durability“.

These Headers or Turbo Manifolds help your engine maximize its performance by allowing the exhaust gasses to flow more efficiently to gain power and performance“.


Motordyne G37 headers

Our comment: They’re in the higher price bracket, but that hasn’t stopped many owners opting for Motordyne’s unique Long Tube design. With this excellent quality kit, they’ve included high flow cats to keep the noise levels down and help with emissions.

This kit may require a small o2 sensor cable modification, but other than that, it’s a solid choice.

Our comment: The first of the Japanese tuning houses arrives, and it’s Fujitsubo that brings their flawless quality to the market with this fantastic, reasonably priced long tube option. These headers provide impressive gains within the mid-power range.

When ordering, ensure that you are getting the correct LHD or RHD variation.

Manufacturer description:Fujitsubo’s spirit is to “produce the highest quality products”. This has not changed since Fujitsubo was first established in 1931. This spirit does not only pertain to creating highly efficient and high quality exhausts and manifolds, but it also applies to our customer’s satisfaction“.

This is the reason Research and development is performed with people, motor vehicles, society, environment etc, all thought as one, to create a product through diversity“.


Central 20 G37 headers

Our comment: There’s very little to go on with regards to Central 20’s JDM offering, and this certainly is one of the rarer alternatives for G37 owners. From the pictures we’ve seen, they look similar to the Z1/Momentum shorties, which is undoubtedly a good thing.

Central 20 is known for being meticulous in their fabrication processes and quality with beautiful welds. If you’re looking to feature some different parts on your build to the norm, this could well be the perfect option, but be prepared to pay the price.

Manufacturer description:Central 20 is the lifework of director/president Haruhiyo Yanagida, also known as β€˜Z of Yanagida or Z-Master’“.

After having great success as a driver in the late 60’s and early 70’s Central 20 was established in 1975 focusing specifically on the Fairlady Z“.

These are more of a mid-length option, similar to Motordyne, and could be great for those that will potentially be considering high-flow cats.

For those of you with deeper pockets that want a unique product for your G37, we have no doubt MCR will be a great option, with its stunning design and traditional Japanese quality.

Amuse Titanium G37 headers

Our comment: Once you’ve stopped drooling and being stunned by the price, we introduce our most expensive offering, and we just couldn’t leave Amuse off our list. These guys are known for being titanium wizards, and their latest work of art weighs in at a ridiculous 2.7kg!

If you’re going for the ultimate build where the money is not an issue, these will undoubtedly offer you tremendous strength and durability to go with your power gains.

We would love to see these headers paired with their Titanium exhaust for the ultimate combination.

Manufacturer description:The R1 Titan Exhaust Manifold features full titanium construction for strength and durability as well as extreme weight reduction“.

Our comment: DC Sports has produced their new updated and revised design for their headers, which now look fantastic in polished stainless steel.

These are 50-stage legal, which may well be appealing to those looking for a convenient option for local emissions laws.

These come cheaper than most, but we believe that there are better options on the market for a little extra. However, the CARB legislation could make them a tempting proposition for some owners.

Manufacturer description:Dyno tuned and tested for maximum performance. Comes in 100% 304 polished stainless steel (including flanges). CNC mandrel bends with TIG welded fittings deliver perfect fit“.

Equal length primary piping ensures optimum tuning for more power across rpm range. Unique merge collector design“.


OBX Racing Sports G37 Headers

Our comment: If you visit your G-series owners clubs, you’re likely to be met with negativity initially when you mention OBX headers.

However, if you take the time to look deeper, several owners are pushing out substantial long-term power figures with these headers.

One, in particular, is using nitrous with the OBX headers, and they’ve provided flawless performance for several years.

With all the legit examples we could find, the fitment also appears to have been on-point.

These appear to be a copy of the Fast Intentions kit at a fraction of the price, and although we’re not keen on copies/reps, we can see the appeal with the OBX for those on a budget.

Our comment: Despite limited information from owners of the ISR Performance headers, they’re the cheapest long tube headers in our guide.

With a low price point, these headers could potentially have a lot to offer, and we’ve only awarded them 3* due to a lack of feedback, combined with the general mixed opinions on ISR Performance products.

304 Stainless steel has been used for the pipework, with a High Ground Clearance feature that places the collector in a position to maximize ground clearance is a great idea.

Our main issue is the hassle of replacing the G37 headers should a problem arise, so it may be worth going with a more reputable option to avoid a potential headache further down the line.

Manufacturer description:The ISR Performance Long Tube headers for VQ35DE/HR are designed to replace your factory header and catalytic converter. These long tube headers are constructed with 304 brushes stainless steel and heavy duty flanges“.

Designed with a stepped primary, these headers are built to retain as much low and mid range torque as possible while allowing for good top end horsepower gains as well“.

Our comment: JWT has released some fantastic products to the G-series market, and their Dual Pop Charger Intake System has become a popular choice over the years.

This kit is one of the ‘short ram’ options, which means that it places the intakes a little closer to the engine than we’d like, which means it’s somewhat limiting the true potential of the cold air gains directly from the front of the car.

There are options available to reduce the downside of this, such as heat shields and reflective tape. However, we prefer the long tube options to get the most impressive gains.

Despite that, this kit has gained plenty of delighted fans over the years. You can expect some noticeable sound improvements, especially when paired with an exhaust, to allow the engine to scream!

As for performance, there may be a few additional horses ready to be unleashed, JTW claims 6.5-10hp, but the main gains are going to be in the looks and sound department for this kit.

Manufacturer description:In 2007 Nissan drastically improved the VQ intake system by adding an extra throttle, so the question was, is there any room for improvement? After a full year of testing JWT got the answer, “YES”, but only with the most efficient Pop-Charger Venturi inlets and hood-sealed heat shields.

In addition to a 6.5 to10 WHP improvement, the tone of the engine due to the dual 6” venturis is definitely the most beautiful sound ever heard from a VQ engine!


Takeda Stage-2 PRO DRY S G37 Intake System

Our comment: This is undoubtedly up there with the best kits on the market and features a unique design that utilizes just one large filter instead of the typical dual-design.

Takeda claims that this intake produced 15hp and 16ft/lb gains with 35% increased airflow over the OEM factory intake.

The main reason that many people opt for this kit over the ‘Drifted Choice’ Stillen G3’s is that there is absolutely no cutting involved, even though the cutting is extremely minimal with the Gen 3’s, so they’re well worth looking at.

Many Gen 3 owners claim that the bending in the pipes to avoid the cutting means that the Gen 3 is capable of increased airflow over this option.

Although many internet forum wars have happened over both of these kits, the primary decision you’ll need to make between the two is whether you’re willing to carry out some trimming to your OEM parts in exchange for the ultimate performance.

Manufacturer description:This Takeda performance air intake system uses a unique dual flange filter design engineered to maximize surface area and flow. In recent testing this Takeda “Attack” cold air intake produced 15 horsepower and 16 lbs. x ft. torque, while outflowing the factory intake by 35%.

The placement of the unique single air filter specifically designed to fit flawlessly in the area in front of the radiator guarantees a supply of cool, high pressure fresh air for maximum power gains. The Takeda philosophy of “no cutting or drilling” is maintained with this intake system, as flexible high resistance silicone couplings are used to pass through existing openings in the radiator core support. Whether for street or race, this is the ultimate intake system for the G37.


Stillen Gen 2 G37 Intake

Our comment: Stillen provide arguably the best G37 kit on the market with their Gen 3, but unfortunately, their Gen 2 falls a little short of the mark.

After undertaking over 50 revisions of their product in the quest to build the perfect intake, which they feel they have achieved with their Gen 3 kit, this went on to supersede the Gen 2.

This upgrade meant that the Gen 3 has longer piping which reaches to the coolest point at the front of the car. Although this Gen 2 kit is classed as a ‘Long Tube’, it’s closer to the short ram options compared to the Gen 3.

The positive of this is that you’re not required to remove your front bumper, and should you need to access the filters, then this makes it far easier to do so. However, this does come at the expense of performance, where the Gen 3 will undoubtedly provide several extra horses.

Although this CARB-legal kit is impeccable quality, we’d instead reap the benefits that the Gen 3 offers.

Yes, it requires minimal trimming to ensure the perfect fit, and if that’s not something that you’re willing to do, then an option like the Takeda above is likely to be perfect for you.

Stillen claims 17.5hp gains from this CARB-legal kit on the G37, which is the highest ‘proven’ (dyno) gains out there.

Thousands of delighted owners have verified that this is the best choice on the market right now, and it also looks fantastic when installed, combined with the typical quality we’ve come to expect from the industry-leaders over the years.

Our comment: For those of you that love your premium JDM goodies, HKS offers their Racing Suction Kit to the premium end of the market.

This kit does come with a fairly substantial price tag, and due to the location of the filters, you’re unlikely to experience the same gains as you would from the Gen 3 kit above.

If you’re looking to show off your parts under the hood, then this is one of the better options out there.

Other benefits from this HKS kit is that it looks fantastic, requires no trimming, and is convenient to install.

It’ll certainly earn you some JDM scene points, but we’d personally be looking to add some heat shields to this setup to avoid sucking in the warmer temperatures.

Overall, a brilliant alternative option for the market, but we feel that more can be had for your buck with Stillen’s Gen 3.

It replaces the stock intake hoses and air filter for maximum filtration without compromise, removing the original air filter box. Installation is simple as it is “plug & play/bolt on”, without any modification necessary.

Our comment: Cosworth is certainly no newcomer to the tuning scene. You’re most likely going to recognize them from their Ford tuning days, but let’s just say that these guys know a thing or two when it comes to maximizing performance!

Although this is a panel filter rather than a full kit, this is the perfect upgrade for those of you that wish to keep the OEM look and feel to your car, simply by upgrading the stock airbox filters.

Cosworth claim that these filters can provide up to 10% reduced restriction over your stock filter, which will undoubtedly offer a noticeable increase.

For an OEM intake, Nissan/Infiniti did a decent job and it provides sufficient airflow for basic everyday needs, even if it does provide some restriction.

Although you’d reap further benefits by opting for a full aftermarket kit, this panel filter is a worthy alternative for those of you that want to keep the OEM look and don’t fancy spending too much cash.

Takeda PDS Stage-2 Polished Short Ram G37 Air Intake System

Our comment: Having previously reviewed the hugely popular Takeda intake above, they also offer this short ram intake for those of you that are looking for looks and convenience over performance.

Similarly to the previous short ram intakes we’ve reviewed, these are once again not going to be capable of providing the same cool air as the long tube options on the market.

However, if a short ram ticks the right boxes for you, then this kit would undoubtedly look good under the hood, and Takeda are known for their excellent quality. In that case, it could be a perfect choice!

Manufacturer description:The Takeda Retain Intake is a short ram air intake intake system. In recent testing this intake produced 9hp and 8lbs. x ft. of torque. Takeda intakes are constructed out of lightweight clear-coat anodized tubing for maximum air flow and a great style.

Each intake uses a large 360 degree high flow PRO Dry S air filter for maximum flow, filtration and convenience. The PRO Dry S air filter requires no oils and cleans with simple soap and water. Our comment: Flowmaster has put an extensive amount of research into providing one of the best, and most popular short ram options on the market.

With substantial heat shields, this means that you get the convenience of a short ram kit with the maximum potential cooling available.

If you’ve made it this far in our guide, you’ll know that we’re relatively biased towards long-tube CAI’s for their performance gains, but as far as short ram kits go, this is one of the best on the market.

Manufacturer description:Take the performance of your vehicle to the next level with the addition of Flowmaster’s new Delta Force Performance Air Intake system for 2008-13 Infiniti G37 with a 3.7L V6 engine. Our comment: AEM offers something a little different with their kit, which sits somewhere in the middle between short ram and long tube, which they claim is capable of providing up to 15hp gains.

This fantastic looking kit is one of the most popular options on the market, mostly for owners that don’t want the inconvenience of trimming or having to remove the bumper for filter maintenance.

One of the best features of this setup is that it utilizes AEM’s Dryflow filters, which can be used up to 100,000 miles without requiring any servicing.

This is a great alternative worth considering for owners that are looking for convenient installation, significant performance gains, and great looks combined with low maintenance.

Manufacturer description:The 21-821DS Performance Cold Air Intake System produces horsepower and torque gains by replacing the restrictive air filter and air intake housing. This air intake system was designed, tuned and dyno-tested to fit specific Infiniti G37 models. This system replaces both the left and right side intakes.

The AEM Dryflow synthetic washable air filter does not require oiling and can be used up to 100,000 miles before servicing is needed (depending on driving conditions). Our comment: Injen’s SP kit typically gets mentioned within the Top 3 CAI’s for the G37, alongside Stillen’s Gen 3 and the Takeda Stage 2 kits.

Like the Takeda kit, this one doesn’t require any trimming, so if that’s likely to put you off, this could be a great choice.

Another beneficial aspect of this kit is that the filters can be removed for servicing without the need to remove the front bumper, unlike Stillen’s Gen 3.

If you’re not keen on working on your car, or the inconvenience of removing your bumper once a year, then this could make the Injen a tempting prospect.

This kit is yet another fantastic option, which quotes 15hp performance gains and is capable of giving the ‘Drifted Choice’ Stillen Gen 3 a run for its money!

If you find the black tubing a little dull, there’s also a polished alternative.

If you’re looking for improved looks and sound, these look incredibly tidy under the hood. Unfortunately, like the other short ram intakes, we don’t recommend it this kit if you’re chasing the highest-possible performance figures.

Manufacturer description:The restrictive factory air filters and air intake housings are replaced by the K&N Typhoon air intake system which is designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as it smoothes and straightens air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air intakes.

However, what if you’re looking to get that little more out of the V6 engine on the track, or even the road? Superchargers are known as the perfect way to extract a substantial amount of missing power from your engine.

Stillen initially had competition from GTM/Gamma Motorsport in the G37 supercharging scene, however with the latter failing to stay in business, it’s safe to say that former 300ZX racing legend Steve Millen’s ‘STILLEN’ option is by far the best choice available on the market.

Our comment: Despite being one of the more expensive options on our list, they say that quality comes at a price and the KW coilover kit certainly lives up to that.

Our comment: BC Racing offer what could quite possibly be the best budget coilover kit available. If you’re planning to spend less than $1k, this all-round kit could well be the perfect choice for you.

These offer a firm, but not crashy ride which is still ideal for street use and are more than capable for the money when you head to the track. BC also offer their higher-end ‘ER’ series coilovers which are a competitior for the KW V3’s if you’re intending to do mostly track use.

With easily accessible adjustment knobs for fine tuning your compression/rebound and separately adjustable ride height, having a performance coilover system couldn’t be any easier. We found that the build quality and finish was reflected in the price and would personally recommend forking out that little bit extra to purchase the BC BR coilovers that are closer to our mid-range offerings.

Our comment: Legendary Japanese tuning company HKS bring their hand with the highest price tag of our list. This option combines fantastic ride comfort which is close to stock comfort levels and fantastic handling alongside the typical quality you would expect from HKS.

These are a serious competitor for the KW V3’s and this may just boil down to personal preference, especially if you’re keen to maintain the JDM aspect on your car.

It was a close call between the superb HKS Hipermax III and the KW V3’s, but with no way of faulting the hugely popular KW’s, they’re undoubtedly the best bang for your buck purchase on our list but either option certainly won’t disappoint!

For those with a serious budget who are looking to get the best lap times available, we have no doubt that the KW V3’s will be the ulimate choice. HKS Hipermax III and the BC Racing ER’s are undoubtedly fantastic alternatives if there’s any reason you would prefer to not go with the KW offering.

Runner-up

Another set of coilovers which really stood out during our research of this article were our budget-offering – BC Racing BR’s. At under $1k, we struggle to believe you will be able to find a better coilover out there for the money. If you’re still intending to make further upgrades to your car and looking for a cheaper alternative, we have no doubt that the BR’s will be perfect for your needs.
