There’s no question that the Infiniti G35 is continuously increasing in popularity in the tuning scene, with prices more tempting than ever before and owners are keen to get the best performance gains and sound out of their G-Series.
Why should I upgrade my G35 exhaust?
An exhaust is undoubtedly one of the first modifications that every owner should make to allow your VQ35DE (or HR) engine breathe as freely as possible whilst also offering an improved sound which we think it should’ve left the factory with.
Given their age and potential mileage, you may need to swap out your existing system if it develops a fault.
Others will opt for an aftermarket exhaust to improve the aesthetics of the G35’s booty and appreciate the performance gains that come with a free-flowing exhaust upgrade.
In stock form, OEM exhausts are naturally restrictive, thanks to the tight emissions legislation that they’re required to conform to.
Not only that, but if you intend to buy a brand new OEM exhaust from Infiniti/Nissan, you’ll likely leave the dealership with your eyes watering when they tell you the price.
Also, let’s not forget that the G35 was designed to be a luxury cruiser, and for the upper-class gentleman they’re appealing to, lairy aftermarket exhausts are probably the last thing on their mind.
However, we’re going to take a quick guess that your interests lie elsewhere, which is why an exhaust upgrade is appealing.
When it comes to maximizing the potential of the G35’s 3.5 L V6 powerplant, an aftermarket exhaust will be essential.
Not only will you benefit from the improved looks, but it’ll also enable the V6 engine to roar to life.
Alongside these benefits, you’ll also likely receive better MPG, due to the free-flowing design of aftermarket exhausts, compared to the restrictive stock alternative.
That’s not all, either, because as you’ve probably guessed, all these free-flowing gases will help your VQ35 engine to breathe freely, which will provide both horsepower and torque gains.
With all these benefits, combined with a reasonable price tag, it’s easy to see why this simple, bolt-on upgrade is so popular among owners
If you’re looking for significant power with a turbo or supercharger kit further down the line, an upgraded exhaust is going to be vital.
If this is in your plans, we’d recommend at least a 3” exhaust to ensure that the additional gases can flow to their maximum potential.
Once you’ve found the perfect exhaust, make sure you also upgrade your cold air intake to maximize the breathing potential that these awesome engines have to offer.
Who is this exhaust guide for?
We have written this exhaust guide to help you decide on your G35’s new exhaust system by giving product information, pricing, photos and video clips for twelve of the most popular G35 exhaust systems currently available. We have also included links for where you can purchase each system.
If you’re looking to go all the way with a full exhaust system then make sure you also take a moment to check out our headers, Y-pipes and test pipes guides.
You may think that since they share the same engine, the 350Z and G35 exhausts would be identical, but unfortunately, that’s not the case. If you’re dead set on a 350Z exhaust or perhaps picked up a cheap used one, don’t panic!
There are plenty of extensions on the market. We recommend the 8” version which we’ve generally found to be the perfect fit.

AAM Competition claims that this is the highest flowing exhaust on the market, and we agree with them that it’ll be the ideal solution for those of you that will be running a forced induction setup on your G.

Megan Racing Drift Spec G35 exhaust
- Internal pipe diameter: 70mm (2.5″) or 76mm (3″)

- Purchase link: Megan Racing Drift Spec G35 Exhaust
If you’re not keen on the look of the exhaust in the photo, then don’t panic, as there’s also an option not to have the burnt tip.
Cheap, large-diameter exhausts are often the loudest, which is the case with this Megan Racing selection, which provides a loud, deep tone.
There is a removable silencer included, should you find it too loud, but remember that this will restrict performance. So, if you’re not in the market for a loud exhaust, this probably isn’t going to be the best choice for you.
However, if you don’t mind rolling loud and proud, and you’re looking to find exhaust with a cheap price tag, this could well present a great opportunity.

Which G35 exhaust is our winner?
Japanese tuning house HKS has stood the test of time and continuously delivered an impeccable standard to the market. The quality, sound, and popularity of this exhaust speaks for itself, and combined with its mid-range price point we, therefore, find it our worthy winner.
There is a huge variety of exhausts to suit any needs you may have and we highly recommend ignoring the small horsepower gains between options and going with the exhaust which you like the look and sound of the most.
However, if you think you may go for forced induction further down the line then consider one of the larger diameter options.
The HKS Hi-Power exhaust has ticked the most boxes for us this time around. Offering an affordable price point combined with a great looking product from an extremely reputable manufacturer.
If money is not an issue, we’d be opting for the Meisterschaft exhaust. Absolutely incredible workmanship combined with the electronic noise control would make it the perfect choice for your daily driver.
Open it up at the track and close it up when parking up or passing the cops, (but we didn’t tell you that!)
